Chick-pea Salad

Craving for some spicy snack?

Chick pea salad is a wonderful chat. It is an amazing tease of contrasts. Sour yet sweet. The bite of onion with the smoothness of chickpeas. The mineralization of rock salt with the tartness of mango powder and lime juice. It is an amazing dish.




Prep time: 5 mins (plus overnight soaking of chickpeas)
Cooking time: 1 hour to cook chickpeas and potatoes
Serves: 4 – 5 people, as a snack or dish with salad.


boiled chick peas - 2 cups
green chillies cut lengthwise - 1-3
ginger finely chopped - 2 tspn
medium red onions chopped - 1 – 2
lemon or lime juice - 3 Tblspn
jaggery or fine sugar or sweet chutney -  2-3 tspn
coriander leaves chopped - 2 Tblspn
med tomatoes, chopped - 2
Amchur powder or chat masala - 1 tsp
Black peper crushed (as required)
puffed rice or sev (bhel mix) - 2-4 Tblspn (optional)
For more spice, Chilli chutney 1-2 tspn

Mix all the above and add salt to taste. If you like nuts you can also add 4-5 pieces of badam to the salad. Refrigerate for 1-2 hrs and serve chill. Yum!
